5. To consider the following motion:
“This AGM approves the submission of a motion to General
Council in broadly the following terms:
‘This General Council believes that the effectiveness of the
Ramblers is being significantly diminished by poor
communication, failure of meaningful consultation on
nationally driven initiatives and lack of openness in
debate on these initiatives.
It therefore calls upon the Board
•
to bring about substantial improvements in these areas;
•
to set up a process to ensure that all stakeholders,
including those in Areas and Groups, are given adequate
notice of planned initiatives and are fully and
meaningfully consulted before decisions are made and
•
to draw up and publish measures for monitoring its success in
doing so and to share the results with Areas and
Groups.’
The Area Officers are authorised to make such amendments as
they deem desirable to render the motion more effective
or more likely to be passed by General Council, after
consulting Area Council as far as is reasonably
practicable.”
If the motion is approved it will be
submitted for consideration by General Council along
with a background note. A draft of that
background note can be viewed to give an indication
of why Area Council decided that such a motion should be
put to the AGM. The AGM is not being asked to vote
on the background note.
It would be helpful if any questions
about the motion are sent in advance of the AGM to
AGM@kentramblers.org.uk so that responses can be
prepared.
