RA Takes on the County Council - and Wins
When the MOD, a few years ago, threatened to turn the beautiful secluded valley
at Luddesdown known as the Bowling Alley into a training area for nine laying,
they thought that RA and local opposition would present little problem.
Such was the strength and effectiveness of that opposition, however, that they finally gave up and sold the
land. We had another fight on our hands recently when KCC attempted to close four paths near Lydd on the Romney Marshes which the army had obstructed for many years.
The successful outcome of our fight after a hearing in the High Court was reported fully in the Summer issue of the South Eastern Rambler.
This was a marvellous achievement after enormous efforts by Pat
Wilson, our former Area Footpaths Secretary, and Fred Amery, backed up by David Beskine, a member of national Office staff.
This is an outstanding example of what our Area Officers achieve for members in Kent. Our congratulations and thanks to all concerned.
