Stepping Out: Walks for Carers

Sheppey Walk

Our June walk took place on Sheppey, the "island of sheep".

Our starting point was the Abbey Hotel, Minster on Sea.  Carers, those cared for and members of the Ramblers came from all over East Kent and some from further afield.  After refreshments and much talk, there was a photo opportunity for the local paper:

We then split into two parties.  Those taking the shorter walk went along The Leas beside the award-winning sand-and-shingle beach with its picturesque row of pastel-painted beach huts:

The others walked along the shingle path on top of the sea defences to Bartonís Point Coastal Park:

Here we saw a lake and a family of swans having a preen:

After an invigorating 2.7 miles we returned for a buffet lunch and more conversation.

Many thanks to Lesley Nowell, plus her mum Maureen, dad Ron and friend Sue, for their invaluable advice and help with the organisation.  Anyone who would like more information on carersí walks on the Isle of Sheppey on a regular basis - contact the Coffee With Carers Facebook page.  Send a friends request, and Lesley will reply.
