Stepping Out: Walks for Carers

If you’re an enthusiastic walker or a carer looking after someone in your family, we are offering the opportunity to join us every month in a relaxed, fun, sociable and scenic walk in gorgeous Kent countryside or along the coastline. The idea is to help carers get fit, make friends, exchange stories or just soak up a few moments of peaceful contemplation in the midst of their understandably hectic lives.

The walks are specially designed to suit a wide variety of walking abilities and carers may come with the people they care for or simply come along on their own. We particularly need knowledgeable and sociable walkers, like the Ramblers, who are invited to lend their support in many ways including: insight, enthusiasm, chat and exhaustive knowledge of tearoom cakes honed over years of Kentish exploration.

If you are a regular - or irregular - walker who would like to come along we would love to see you and you would definitely make a difference to someone’s day.

There will be two more walks held this year on the last Fridays of September and October.  All begin at 11am and we are happy to provide transport (including wheelchair-friendly) for those carers unable to make their own way.

Carers just need to book by calling 01233-664393. The sooner the better, as in some cases we need to cap the numbers.

Meanwhile, if the walkers would like to get in touch with sue.mott12@gmail.com 07836 283566 or Brenda Courtney getoutandabout@btinternet.com 07500178033, all further details can be provided.

It is our pleasure to provide entry fees where necessary and a subsidy towards lunch or refreshments.

With grateful thanks to Sport England for supporting this new venture and to our much-appreciated ambassadors including Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson, one of the greatest British Paralympians of all time.
